Veni Sancte Spiritus
I vacationed in Mammoth Lakes recently, which is an outdoor paradise for hiking, fishing, kayaking and biking. And while mountain biking takes center stage there in summer, for me, e-biking steals the show!
If you’ve never ridden an e-bike, you simply must try it. I guarantee it’s the most fun you’ll have on two wheels…which brings me to the Holy Spirit.(Trust me, there IS a connection.)
So there I was, riding my bike up some steep terrain at 9,000’ elevation (which would normally leave me gasping for air), when I realized that activating the e-bike’s battery power is a lot like leaning on the power of the Holy Spirit.
First, he gives you the help you need, right when you need it – not a moment too soon or too late. Second, the steeper the hill, the more of his power he puts at your disposal. And third, he works in harmony with you – you still have to pedal, but together you’ll accomplish far more than you ever could on your own.
Each time I approached another hill on my e-bike, I had no fear. I knew I would make it up the hill no matter how steep it got, because I had ultimate power at my fingertips. All I had to do was tap into it, which is exactly how the Holy Spirit works. When we call upon his name, he rushes in like a driving wind, giving us the strength we need to face our struggles, our fears, our temptations or lack of trust.
If people named bicycles the way sea captains name boats, I’d name mine Veni Sancte Spiritus – Come Holy Spirit!
