God’s economy beats ours any day
Nothing is a ever waste in God’s economy, which is welcome news for all of us experiencing the negative effects of our earthly economy: $6 for a gallon of gas, $15 for a shot of whiskey and forget about the price of meat right now!
But in God’s economy, things always add up. He takes our good deeds and multiplies them for his purposes. Every prayer lands right where it needs to; even a “generic” prayer offered for the people of Ukraine finds its way to someone in desperate need. And when we donate money to a worthy cause and wonder precisely where it went, let’s trust that God is at work behind the scenes, directing our gift to whomever needs it at any given moment. Even our suffering has redemptive value in God’s economy: it can be used for our own sanctification or to benefit others if we hand him our burdens in a spirit of humble surrender.
At the end of our lives we’ll get to see the fruits of our labor. God will roll the tape and reveal the many hidden efforts we did in his name, and he’ll show us how he multiplied them for his glory (2 x 2=8). I like that kind of math! We’ll get to see whom we’ve blessed and who’s been busy blessing us - those hidden prayer warriors who carried us through a trial or a season of suffering. Let’s trust that the Lord Jesus is multiplying our efforts using his own kind of math - a formula we may not understand now, but one that will make perfect sense to us later. And let’s never lose hope that God is causing ALL things to work together for good, even our trials.
We’re living through some interesting times and our earthly economy is shaky. But it’s during these tough times that saints are made, and by that I mean you and me. The Lord is calling each of us to sainthood, so let’s entrust our efforts to Almighty God who has deep pockets of love and mercy, and let’s allow him to turn our “two small coins” into gold for his kingdom.
